Four track champions were crowned on double point championship night for the Hornets, Roadrunners and Crash to Pass at Saratoga Speedway last Saturday.
Kevin Lawrenuk came into the night with a 229 point lead in the Hornet A division and Ted Dimitrov held a three point lead in the Hornet B division. Fast time in qualifying on Saturday was set by Daryl Cahill who set a time of 18.266. Due to weather conditions, there was only one dash on the night, with the win going to Jeremy Stormo. The C heat went to Cameron Phillips, the B to Bob Fraser and the A to Lawrenuk. Going into the 50 lap main event, Lawrenuk held a 215 point lead over Cahill and Dimitrov held a five point lead over his son Brad Dimitrov. Lawrenuk dominated the main event, leading all but 10 laps to take the win and be crowned as the Hornet A champion. Back in the field, Dimitrov held off his son Brad Dimitrov to win the Hornet B championship by 15 points. Cahill finished second in the Hornet A championship, and Daryn Cahill finished third.
Going into the race night, Andrea Cannon had already won the Roadrunner championship. Cannon held an 1,171 point lead over the next eligible car in the division going into Saturday. Cannon became one of the first ever champions to win a championship without winning a main event. Derrik Senft set fast time in qualifying on Saturday, setting a time of 19.351. Senft also captured the win in the dash. The only heat of the night was won by Tyrome Pollock, who dominated the heat, leading every lap. Pollock carried his winning ways into the main, once again leading every lap of the 15 lap main event. Senft finished second, with third going to Nick Leavitt.
Travis Stevenson held a slim 35 point lead over “The General” Jeff May in Crash to Pass going into Saturday night. Stevenson held the early advantage, setting fast time in qualifying with a time of 18.553. Dan Kemp won the only dash, and Brad Kotscherofski won the only heat on the night. Stevenson’s lead diminished to 28 going into the 15 lap main event. Cody Young took an early lead in the main. On lap 10, Stevenson had to head to the pit to clean off his mind shield, due to heavy rain, putting Stevenson a lap down. Young held his lead from there, taking the win.
May finished second, and Brandon Young finished third. After all was said and done, May over took Stevenson to win the championship by 15 points. Third place in the championship went to Dan Kemp, who finished 206 points behind.
