Canada’s top racquetball players are battling on the courts of the Newlands Fitness Centre over the next few days.
“It is pretty intense,” said Cheryl McKeeman, the former president of Racquetball BC, who is organizing the national racquetball championships.
At stake are spots on Team Canada for the World Games this summer in Colombia. The tournament results will also help determine the Canadian team for the 2014 world championships, which will be held in Toronto.
The doubles portion of the competition wrapped up on Tuesday night and singles play was scheduled to begin Wednesday (yesterday).
The singles finals are set for Saturday afternoon.
Some of the names to watch include Jennifer Saunders (Manitoba) and Frederique Lambert (Quebec) on the women’s side, while the men’s draw features top seed Mike Green (Ontario), Tim Landeryou (Saskatoon) and Colby Iwaasa (Alberta).
