An A event win at last weekend’s Lower Mainland Masters Women playdown in Coquitlam has two Chilliwackians booked for provincials.
Janet Klebe (skip), Jane Adam (second) and Kerri Miller (third) joined forces with Richmond’s Laurie Shimizu.
The five team event saw three teams qualify, but Klebe made it look easy.
A dramatic 5-4 win over Gwen Clark (Royal City/Langley) got the locals started, with Klebe’s crew scoring one in the eighth and one in the ninth end to overcome a 4-3 deficit.
Klebe only needed one more win and it came in dominant fashion.
Her rink swatted aside Carol McFadden (Royal City) 6-2 in the A event final, scoring two in the sixth and one in the seventh to put it away.
Ken Watson’s Chilliwack Curling Club quartet did the same in the men’s playdown, also held at the Coquitlam Curling Club last weekend.
Watson was joined by Vic Miller (lead), Dale Hockley (second) and Doug Meger (third).
Together they won three games in dominant fashion to claim the A event win.
Watson and company started with a 7-2 win over Paul Dunkin (Vancouver Curling Club) followed by a 9-3 win over Garth Moore (Golden Ears Winter Club).
The Chilliwackians saved their best for last, swatting Rick Pughe (Royal City) 8-0 in the A event final.
So dominant were they that the match was over after just four ends.
The 2017 B.C. Masters Curling Championship takes place Mar. 7-12 at the Cranbrook Curling Club.
