Chilliwack native joining Selkirk College Saints

A former BCHL star with the Langley Rivermen and Trail Smoke Eaters, Chilliwack's Darnell Dyck will play next year in the BCIHL.

Chilliwack native Darnell Dyck will spend the 2013-14 season with the Selkirk College Saints, a team playing in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League

Selkirk College is located in Grand Forks, bringing Dyck back to his old stomping grounds in the West Kootenays.

Dyck spent one of his BCHL seasons in Trail, playing for the Smoke Eaters.

He finished his junior A career in Langley, logging two seasons with the Chiefs/Rivermen.

Dyck netted 54 goals and 163 points in 230 BCHL games.

The 21-year old spent the current season at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, where he helped the Lions to an appearance in the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s national championship game. He finished third on the team in goals (10) and fifth in points (21) in 23 games, leading Lion rookies in both categories.

“We’re thrilled to be adding an impact offensive player like Darnell to a very strong group of returning forwards,” said Saints head coach Jeff Dubois. “We were active in trying to recruit Darnell out of the BCHL last summer and I was very pleased when he reconnected with an interest in playing closer to home. He’s already spent a year competing against college-aged players and I’m sure he’ll be a valuable and productive player in our league.”

The BCIHL is a seven team circuit which includes Simon Fraser University, Eastern Washington University, Trinity Western University, Thompson Rivers University and the University of Victoria.

Stefan Gonzales, who played for the Chilliwack Chiefs last season, will be joining Dyck at Selkirk.
