Nick Taylor came within a whisker of winning his first career PGA Tour Canada event, but had to settle for second at the Dakota Dunes Open in Saskatoon.

The 25-year-old Abbotsford golfer took a one-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round, having carded rounds of 67, 63 and 67 to sit at 19 under par.

His final 18 holes were a bit of a roller-coaster – after registering just two bogies over the previous three rounds, he made four on Sunday to go with five birdies, ending the day at one-under.

That left him at -20 for the tournament, and in a three-way tie for second place, one stroke in arrears of American Wil Collins. Collins started the day four back, but rallied to win after shooting a sparkling six-under 66.

The runner-up finish at the Dakota Dunes Open is yet another excellent result for Taylor in 2013. He won five straight events on the Vancouver Golf Tour earlier this year, and finished fourth at the first PGA Tour Canada stop in Victoria.

Taylor earned $11,200, and sits fourth on the PGA Tour Canada order of merit.
