Co-op held off a streaking Ladybird Engraving to take the championship for the Port Alberni Men’s Spring Basketball League last Wednesday at the Alberni Athletic Hall.
Co-op won all their games in the eight-week league.

Co-op took a quick 8-2 lead before Ladybird slowly clawed back, eventually taking over the lead 21–19.
Co-op took a timeout to regroup and finished the half with a 39-30 advantage.
Ladybird made small runs in the second half to cut into lead. With approximately five minutes left they closed within one point, 61-60, before Co-op took another timeout. Co-op scored the next nine points to push their lead to 70-60 and cruise to their first Men’s Basketball Championship.
Co-op top scorers were Josh Kurucz 25 pts, Ryan Broekhuizen 12 pts and Remy Contant 11pts. Ladybird Engraving leaders were Con Van Vliet 28 pts and Anthony McIntosh 21 pts.

Donut Shop 60
Tseshaht Market won third place by defeating the Donut Shop 69-60.
For the first few minutes of the game it was a back and forth contest until Tseshaht Market ran off 13 straght points to take a 31-16 lead. The Donut Shop were able to cut the deficit down to 10 by the break but couldn’t make any further headway in the second half.
Tseshaht Market scoring leaders were Coby Felsman Jr 34 pts, Ricky Masso 15 pts and Adam Currey 13 pts. Donut Shop leaders were Mike Lange 24 pts, Sam Moncur 20 pts and Evan Peters 10 pts.
Consolation Final

Black Sheep 58
The consolation game saw the Black Sheep pour in a season high 58 points on offence, however, it was not enough as Team Ralla easily pulled away with a 86-58 victory.
Black Sheep scorers were Riley Savard and Matt McDougal with 14 pts each and Gavin Purewal 13 pts. Team Ralla leaders were Brenden Lundy-Sam 24 pts and Adam Yaredic 22 pts.
