Coast Salish Games draw a crowd

More than 500 young people take part in sports and cultural events

Nikki Jack, of the Penelakut First Nation, focused on the ball while Tyler Jim of the Tsawout Young Guns tried to block her during the final game of the U17 ball hockey tournament Thursday at the Gathering Strength Community Centre on the Tsawout reserve.

The tournament was part of the 14th annual Coast Salish Games, which also included canoe pulling, soccer, a dance party and skill development workshops.

This year’s Coast Salish Games drew a record number of more than 500 young people from around the island.
