Team Connecticut and Team Manitoba were the winners at the 14th annual Optimist U18 International curling championships over the weekend.
The event was held at the Langley Curling Club and the Cloverdale Curling Club and featured curlers between the ages of 11 and 17 from Canada, the United States and Japan.
In the boys’ final, Team Connecticut (skip Kent Suslavich, Hunter Clawson, William Pryor, Caleb Clawson and coach Don Arsenault beat Team Northern Ontario 5-3 for the gold.
Team Washington defeated Team Nova Scotia for the bronze.
In the girls’ final, Team Manitoba (skip Brooke Friesen, Katelyn Derksen, Kelsey Sagert, Cali Hamm and coach Ross Derksen) beat Team Ontario 6-5 in extra ends. In the bronze medal final, Team Alberta defeated Team Saskatchewan.
