Crusaders start with a win

Holy Cross defeats Nechako Valley at provincial tournament in Kamloops

As expected, the Holy Cross Crusaders had little trouble winning their first round game of the B.C. Senior AA girls high school basketball championship tournament in Kamloops.

The Crusaders, ranked third in the province, cruised past the Nechako Valley Viqueens of Vanderhoof 74-30 Wednesday afternoon. Amy Sprangers, a Grade 10 guard, led the winners with 19 points and 18 rebounds, while Rachel Beauchamp netted 21 points. Michelle Bos also scored in double figures with 14 points.

Holy Cross led 19-3 after one quarter, and were up 37-11 at the half.

The Crusaders play the Wellington Wildcats of Nanaimo in a quarterfinal contest today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. at Thompson Rivers University.
