Cyclocross races coming to two parks

Cross on the Rock’s Hot Cross Bunnies series stop comes to Beban Park on Saturday (Nov. 5) The Kona Kup race will be Sunday at Bowen Park.

A cyclocross race this weekend might have some additional obstacles that riders will need to watch out for – bunny rabbits.

Cross on the Rock’s Hot Cross Bunnies series stop is coming to Beban Park on Saturday (Nov. 5) as part of a Nanaimo doubleheader. The Kona Kup race will be held Sunday at Bowen Park. Organizers are anticipating upwards of 300 racers over the course of the weekend.

Cyclocross is a style of off-road bicycle racing that includes a lot of turns and obstacles like sand and stairs.

Registration for both races starts at 9:15 a.m. with beginner clinics to follow at 10 a.m. The expert races start at 2:15 p.m. There are 10 divisions of racing in all, including beginner, intermediate and masters leading up to the main-event expert divisions.

Race-day registration costs $25-35, or $15-25 in advance.
