Chantel Desch of the Valley Royals track and field club brought home a trio of gold medals from the Holder Relays in Yakima, Wash. last weekend.

The Yale Secondary senior had victories in the 100 metres and 400m, and combined with Hailey Gibson, Katherine Crivello and Natasha Friedman to win the 4x100m relay. Desch’s time of 12.63 in the 100m was a personal best.

Gibson was second in the 100m, just one hundredth of a second behind Desch, while Alex Siemens took bronze in the mile run and Francesca Jackman was third in the 300m hurdles.

Later in the meet, Siemens and Jackman joined forces with Janelle Hay and Kayla Lennea to win the distance medley relay.

MASON WINS HIGH JUMP

The Royals’ Mike Mason braved pouring rain and wind on Saturday to place first in the high jump at the Western Washington University meet in Bellingham.

Mason managed a Canadian-leading jump of 2.20m to easily win the event and had some good attempts at 2.24 meters. The Nanoose Bay native is now living in Abbotsford and training under the watchful eye of Ziggy Szelagowicz. He’s contending for a spot on the Canadian team for the London Summer Olympics.
