Dunnett fastest Mission racer

A North Vancouver girl was clocked at 57 km/h in her derby racer

North Vancouver’s Megan Gerlach took first place in the grand champion division at last Saturday’s Mission Soapbox Derby.

She finished with a blistering time of 36.38 seconds at 57 km/h down Stave Lake Street.

Mission’s Payton Dunnett took second by a hairbreadth with 39.60 seconds at 52 km/h, while Jaydan Mortimer of Maple Ridge came third with 39.85 seconds, also at 52 km/h.

For becoming grand champion, Gerlach earned a $500 bursary from Mission Raceway Park.

Jasraj Uppal won a bicycle from Canadian Tire for being Most Sportsmanlik, while Dunnett won the Dave Adams Memorial Trophy and Rotary Mid-Day Club $400 bursary.

Rookie of the year honours went to Teagan Dunnett (girl) and Marty Penner (boy).
