Eagles atoms collect win, banner

PORT McNEILL-Club scores 7-3 playoff win over Saanich before being presented Division 4 league title banner.

PORT McNEILL-Cole Klughart scored a hat trick, Tyler Roper had three points and Keenan Saunders earned a playmaker Saturday as the North Island Eagles atom development hockey team advanced to the Vanouver Island Hockey League Division 4 playoff final with a 7-3 win over Saanich at Chilton Regional Arena.

Daunte McKinney of Alert Bay scored a goal on his birthday, Joey Grant also found the net and Kayden Jones got the win in goal for the atoms, who following the game were presented the 2013-14 Division 4 League Championship banner by Liza Furney.

The Eagles, as the top seed in the division, will host a three-team tournament this weekend in Port Hardy, with two visiting teams squaring off at 3 p.m. Saturday for the right to take on the atoms for the postseason crown on Sunday.
