Edward Jones sets bar high in scramble

The fifth annual Edward Jones Charity Golf Scramble has set their expectations high this year

The fifth annual Edward Jones Charity Golf Scramble has set their expectations high this year.

After raising $20,000 last year for the Prince Rupert and District Hospice Society and the Prince Rupert Marine Rescue Society, the organization hopes to raise $41,000 this year, to buy the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital maternity unit a Panda Warmer.

A Panda Warmer is an incubator used to care for newborn babies by keeping them warm after delivery, as well as help nurses effectively weigh and resuscitate babies if needed.

The scramble will take place at the Prince Rupert Golf Club on Saturday, May 28, with a shotgun start at 10 a.m., followed by a fundraising dinner at the Prince Rupert Curling Club.

The event has room for 144 people, or 36 teams of four people. There is a $100 entry fee for participants, which will cover their golf balls, dinner ticket, and the cost of the prizes available to win. A tax receipt will be given to cover a portion of the cost.

Extra tickets to the dinner are available for purchase for those who want to support the cause without golfing. Tickets for the dinner are $30 each.

The top two teams of the day will be able to select their prize of choice, with the remaining participants given prizes based on a draw system.

On the course, there will be a KP (closest to the pin) prize on every par three, as well a prize for getting a hole in one.

New this year to the friendly competition is the opportunity for sponsors who donate $1000 or more, to be able to set up on a hole and promote their company to the golfers with swag and prizes.

So far seven companies have confirmed they’ll be taking part.

Central Mountain Air and Hawkair are offering a flight for two to Vancouver, which will be given out in a draw. All entrants in the golf scramble will be entered into the draw to win.

One person in the golf tournament will also have the opportunity to win $1,000,000 if they can make a difficult set up shot on the course.

People who are interested in taking part in the scramble can RSVP through the Edward Jones branch at 519 2nd Avenue West, or call 250-627-7400.
