Ex-Chief finds hockey home with Griffins

Shay Laurent will continue his hockey career with the Grant McEwan University Griffins.

Former Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Shay Laurent has found a new hockey home, signing on with the Grant McEwan University Griffins.

The Edmonton-based school plays in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Opponents include the Northern and Southern Alberta Institutes of Technology (NAIT and SAIT), Portage College and Augustana College.

Laurent is an Alberta native hailing from Fort McKay, which is just north of Fort McMurray.

He played three BCHL seasons, mostly with Chilliwack, accumulating five goals, 40 assists and 195 penalty minutes in 166 games.

Laurent also played briefly for the Coquitlam Express and Nanaimo Clippers.
