Fast start for Mustangs

The Langley Mustangs are off to a running start to the track season.

The track and field club’s junior development athletes (ages 9-13) were competing in their first meet of the season as the Norwesters Elementaries Meet at Swangard Stadium over the weekend.

And the Mustangs returned with 26 medals and a new club record from nine-year-old Natalie Monro, who ran a blazing 9.29 in the 60 metre dash.

Vaughn Taylor also captured five gold medals and seven medals altogether.

Gold — Tanika Dolfo (long jump); Teagan Richardson (high jump); Caroline Gillespie (high jump); Hanna Rolfe (high jump); Chloe Hetherington (high jump); Vaughn Taylor (long jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 600m); Joel Harrison (high jump, long jump, 300m); Drey Blair (100m, shot put); Daniel Pavlic (100m, 200m).

Silver — Jaclyn Pauly (100m, long jump); Tanika Dolfo (shot put); Vaughn Taylor (60m); Josiah Perovich (100m, 600m, 1000m).

Bronze — Jaclyn Pauly (high jump); Vaughn Taylor (shot put).

The Mustangs senior athletes were at a Valley Royals meet in Abbotsford, with Adam Osborne and Stuart Ellenwood both breaking their existing club records.

Osborne cleared 4.10m in pole vault, while Ellenwood ran the 49.07 in the 400m.

Also at the meet, Georgia Ellenwood successfully reached the qualifying point standard in the heptathlon. She is working towards representing Canada this summer at the world youth championships in France.
