The UFV Cascades are heading into the second-last weekend of the CIS season, and the last weekend of home play, and are still looking to clinch final playoff positions along the way.
The Cascades travel to Vancouver on Friday to play UBC before returning to Abby on Saturday for a doubleheader against the University of Victoria Vikes (women 5 p.m., men 7:30 p.m, Abby Senior).
The women’s team (7-1-0) is currently in a fight to the finish with the Vikes and the TWU Spartans (both 7-0-1) for leadership of the Pacific Division. A win on Saturday against Victoria could earn UFV the right to host a Canada West quarter-final playoff game.
The men currently sit in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division with a 4-4-0 record, just ahead of TWU (3-4-1) and just behind UBCO (4-5-1). Last year the Cascades broke into the playoffs for the first time in their CIS history, earning third in the Canada West, and this weekend will largely determine whether UFV once again can find a place in the post-season.
On Saturday the Cascades men will also honour their graduating players, Mark Village, Ravi Singh, Trevor O’Neill, Ryan Liddiard, and Juan Pablo Mora Perea, in a ceremony before the game.
