They’ve put themselves in contention, and now they’ll try for championships.
The final round of B.C. Golf’s men’s and women’s mid-amateur and mid-masters championships takes place today (June 2) at the Nanaimo Golf Club.
The women’s mid-amateur should see an interesting final round. Victoria’s Alison Murdoch maintains the lead after a four-over 76 on Wednesday, but Nanoose Bay’s Shelly Stouffer is just two strokes back and Port Alberni’s Christina Proteau is three strokes back.
“They are much more capable of seriously low scores than I am,” said Murdoch in a press release. “But I wouldn’t mind playing in the last group tomorrow, go out there and whack away and see what I can do.”
There might not be as much drama in the men’s mid-amateur, as Victoria’s Kevin Carrigan shot a five-under 67 on Wednesday to open up a nine-stroke lead on the rest of the field.
“I scraped it around well on the front nine,” Carrigan said. “I had a lot of up and downs. I think I had 31 putts yesterday and putted awesome. Today I had about 23 putts and it was even better.”
Craig Doell of Victoria leads the men’s mid-masters competition after a two-under 70 on Wednesday. Nanaimo’s Sandy Harper and Pitt Meadows’ Gudmund Lindbjerg are two strokes behind.
TEE TIMES … Murdoch, Stouffer and Proteau tee off today at 11:21 a.m., Lindbjerg and Harper tee off at 11:57 a.m. and Carrigan and Doell tee off at 12:06 p.m.
