The Fraser Heights Firehawks followed up a Fraser Valley championship with a bronze medal at the B.C. Senior AAA boys high school volleyball tournment in Kelowna last weekend.
The Firehawks got off to a slow start, placing fourth in their pool during the round robin, earning the number-four seed for the 20-team single-knockout playoff.
The outlasted the Moscrop Panthers of Burnaby 3-0 in the round of 16, then swept Vancouver’s Eric Hamber Griffins in the quarterfinal round. Against the eventual champion Oak Bay Bays, Fraser Heights lost in four sets (21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25) in Saturday morning’s semifinal match, before edging the Penticton Lakers in a five-set bronze medal match (22-25, 20-25, 26-25, 25-15, 15-13).
Irvan Brar (first team), William Dichuk (second team), and Josiah Ahn (honourable mention) were among the tournament all-stars.
