A key member of the Trinity Western Spartans women’s volleyball team is off to Mexico where she hopes to help Canada qualify for the 2012 Summer Games in London.
Kelci French was named to the Canadian women’s 12-player roster on Monday. The dozen players will compete in the NORCECA Olympic qualification tournament next week (April 29-May 5) in Tijuana, Mexico.
“Representing Canada in attempt to qualify for the Olympics is something that I’ve been dreaming about since I was a little girl,” she said.
French will play setter for Canada. Last season with the Spartans, she largely played outside hitter and was fourth on the team in points, averaging 2.25 per set.
Canada is in a round robin pool with the Dominican Republic (ranked ninth), Puerto Rico (#19) and Honduras (#69). Canada is ranked No. 22.
The top team in the eight-team event qualifies for the Olympics.
