Walnut Grove knocks off Terry Fox in quarter-final round of B.C. provincial junior boys basketball championships

The Walnut Grove Gators will play for a medal, but the colour has yet to be determined.

The junior boys basketball team won for a third straight time on Thursday night at the B.C. junior boys provincial basketball championships at the Langley Events Centre.

Walnut Grove’s James Woods led the team with 20 points as they edged the Terry Fox Ravens 47-44.

The Gators were the 14th seed while Terry Fox was No. 11.

It was also revenge for Walnut Grove as the Ravens beat the Gators 63-57 last week in the quarter-finals of the Fraser Valley championships. Walnut Grove would place seventh in the Valley while Terry Fox finished fourth.

In the Gators first two games at provincials, they beat No. 19 Notre Dame 49-43 and then took down No. 3 St. George’s 46-38.

Both of those games were on Wednesday.

Walnut Grove plays No. 7 Killarney tonight (Friday, Feb. 27) in one semifinal while the other pits No. 1 Kitsilano versus No. 4 Steveston/London.
