Val Gervais won a triple crown at the Mission Tennis Club’s Year End Tournament over the Labour Day weekend.

Gervais and her partner, Mark Gervais, defended their mixed doubles title Saturday by defeating Brandon Wood and Tanis Sanford, 6-0, 6-1.

Gervais, a perennial favourite, teamed up with Jane Thorup to take the women’s doubles title the next day by beating Tanis Sanford and Florence Colquhuon, 6-1, 6-0.

Gervais also claimed the women’s title in a marathon with long rallies against a determined Sanford, who eventually fell 6-2, 6-2.

Winning all three events is a feat that does not happen often, said Mark Gervais, tennis club organizer.

The team of Wood and Ian Mackenzie were down early in the men’s doubles final, but managed to come back strong to win 6-3, 6-4.

Wood retained his men’s singles title after his opponent, Ken Herar, had to retire from the match after only completing two games.

The tennis club thanks all the local businesses and the district’s parks and recreation department for supporting the tournament, said Gervais.

The Mission Tennis Club will continue to play throughout the early fall. For more information call Mark at 604-826-2586.
