A pair of Vancouver Giants heard their names called on Saturday, in day two of the National Hockey League draft.
Tyler Benson was taken in the second round, 32nd overall, by the Edmonton Oilers, while Ty Ronning was selected in round seven, 201st overall, by the New York Rangers.
The draft was held June 24 and 25 at Buffalo’s First Niagara Center.
They became the 26th and 27th players, respectively, drafted by NHL clubs in the Giants’ history.
Benson, an Edmonton native, scored nine times and had 19 assists in an injury-plagued 2015/16 season which saw him play just 30 games for the Giants.
In Benson’s absence, Ronning stepped up and led Vancouver with a team-high 31 goals as well as 28 assists in 67 games.
Both players should play big roles with the Giants as the Western Hockey League team plays its first season at the Langley Events Centre.
The Giants begin the WHL season when they host the Everrett Silvertips on Sept. 23.
The team will have one home pre-season game at the LEC on Sept. 17 against Victoria.
Vancouver begins the pre-season on Sept. 2.
