There was not a lot to be thankful for the Vancouver Giants who were south of the border for American Thanksgiving.
The Giants returned from a three-game road trip against a pair of U.S. Division foes with just a single point.
The point came on the trip’s final game, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night at the Toyota Centre in Kennewick, Wash.
The Giants had led the game 2-0 after 20 minutes but the team was outshot 28-12 over the final 45 minutes before dropping the second point in the shootout.
Tyler Benson struck in the first round but the Americans’ Morgan Geekie beat Ryan Kubic in the third round to extend the shootout before Tyler Sandhu won it in the fourth round.
Ty Ronning and Tyler Popowich had scored in regulation for Vancouver while Sandhu and Dylan Coghlan tallied in the second period for the Americans.
Vancouver had begun the trip against Tri-City as well, dropping a 5-1 decision on Nov. 23.
Popowich had opened the scoring before the Americans took over with five unanswered goals.
Brett Leason and Sandhu had a goal apiece to put Tri-City ahead 2-1 after 40 minutes and Juuso Valimaki scored a natural hat trick in the third period.
Two nights later, Vancouver was in Spokane and the Chiefs power play struck for five goals in a 10-1 rout.
Spokane’s Hudson Elynuik and Ronning traded goals in the first eight minutes.
The Chiefs led 2-1 after the first period but blew the game open with three goals in the second and then another five in the final 20 minutes.
Elyniuk led Spokane with three goals and five points while Jared Anderson-Dolan had three goals and an assist. Keanu Yamamoto had six assists.
