Glacier Kings knock off Panthers 4-2

Comox Valley Jr. B hockey team hosts Campbell River Storm this Saturday night

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings picked up their second win of the young Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season on Saturday, defeating the Peninsula Panthers 4-2 at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

The Yetis led 2-0 after the first period but the visitors’ special teams went to work in the second, scoring shorthanded and on the power play to pull even. The Icemen tallied what would prove to the winner with a power-play goal of their own when Franco Colapaolo zinged the strings from Derian Hamilton and Keagun Selva at the 15:450 mark.

Jonas Horvath sealed the deal at 19:00 of the third. Mitchell Hawes and Selva had the other Comox Valley goals. Selva earned first-star honours for his three-point performance (1g, 2a). Hawes was third star.

The G-Kings outshot the Panthers 26-20, with Blake Pearson picking up the win in net. The Yetis went 2-for-4 on the power play while Peninsula was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

The Glaciers Kings (2-2-1-1) are third in the North Division while the Panthers (0-6-0-0) are last in the South Division.

This weekend, the G-Kings are in Saanich (0-4-0-1) on Friday night then return home Saturday to host Campbell River (6-0-0-0) in a 7:30 p.m. start at Sports Centre #1.
