Goalies go big for Legends

Player of the game goalies Jeremy Gill and Parker Stadnyk were unbeatable

Player of the game goalies Jeremy Gill and Parker Stadnyk were unbeatable.

So, too, was the North Okanagan Fairfield Marriott Legends Pee Wee B lacrosse team.

Gill and Stadnyk stopped every shot flung their way in an 8-0 win over the hometown Merritt Thunder Saturday at the Shulu Arena.

Ethan Harshenin led a dominant Legends performance with three goals and one assist. Jacob Defeo added 2+1, Wyatt Anderson chipped in 1+1 while singles came from Joey Mazzei and Tayber McLean.

Standout efforts were put in by Defeo, Harshenin, Kaleb Pachal, Anderson and Jakob Aeichele.

In Kamloops, the North Okanagan Everton Ridge Legends lost 9-5 to the hometown Rattlers in their Bantam A2 league opener.

Kamloops put a close game out of reach by scoring six times in the final period.

Assistant captain Kaden Doughty scored three times, including one unassisted, for the Legends with Wyatt Fowler and Zach Gares drawing assists on the other goals.

Captain Caden Colmorgen (unassisted) and Liam Cyr, from Owen McKill and Griffin Evans after Brandon Matvenko won possession on a faceoff following a timeout call by head coach Casey Sheriff, had the other North Okanagan goals.

Assistant captain Kael Black was aggressive on the ball, and created a lot of possession and opportunity for the Legends.

Meanwhile, the Armstrong Shamrocks open the Okanagan Senior C Lacrosse League regular season tonight in Kamloops against the Rattlers.

The Shamrocks, coached by all-star goalie Chad Pieper, will host the provincial tournament, Aug. 7-9, at Hassen Memorial Arena and Nor-Val Sports Centre. The Rocks’ home opener is Saturday, May 2 versus the Ratrtlers.
