Playing at a junior basketball tournament proved to be no problem at all for the Walnut Grove Gators Grade 8 girls basketball team.
The Gators were competing at a tournament hosted by Enver Creek over the weekend and despite playing against girls two years older than them, Walnut Grove more than held their own, bringing home top spot.
Walnut Grove defeated Sullivan Heights 39-30 in the opening round, Centennial 65-44 in the semifinals and St. Thomas More 56-47 in the championship final.
The Gators’ Tavia Rowell earned most valuable player honours.
Rolande Taylor, Natalia Monro and Jessica Wisotzki were also instrumental in the Gators’s run to the trophy.
