The W.J. Mouat Hawks stole the show at the Abby-Mission district track and field championships last week at Rotary Stadium.
The Hawks won all four aggregate division titles they were involved in – senior girls, senior boys, junior girls and junior boys – en route to the overall meet championship. Mouat racked up 995 points in all, out-distancing Abbotsford Christian Secondary (636), Yale (323), MEI (219) and Mission (164).
Leading the way for the Hawks were a trio of elite girls. Alex Siemens (800 metres, 1500m, 3000m) and Hailey Gibson (100m, 200m, shot put) won all three events they entered in the senior division, while Callum Pilgrim was a triple medallist in the junior category, winning the 1500m and 3000m and finishing second in the 800m.
Abbotsford Christian also enjoyed a terrific collective performance, finishing second to Mouat in three categories – junior boys, junior girls and senior girls.
On the Grade 8 scene, Abby Christian and MEI won the girls and boys divisions, respectively, and the Eagles claimed the overall title, out-pointing Knights 460-341.
