High school hoops teams will try again

Every one of the city's senior basketball teams is slated for action tonight (Jan. 15), with six games in Nanaimo.

Last Tuesday’s high school hoops matchups were all cancelled due to snow, but tonight (Jan. 15) the forecast calls for basketball. Every one of the city’s senior basketball teams is slated for action, with six games in Nanaimo.

Two of the best all-Nanaimo matchups will be at the Woodlands Secondary School gym. The Woodlands Eagles senior AA girls host the Nanaimo District Islanders at 5 p.m. and then the Eagles senior AA boys host the Barsby Blazers at 7 p.m.

Another interesting all-Nanaimo game tonight sees the Blazers senior AA girls visit the Cedar Spartans girls at 5 p.m. at the Cedar Community Secondary School gym.

One more good one should be the senior AA boys’ game at the Nanaimo District Secondary School gym, where NDSS will play the Ladysmith ’49ers at 7 p.m.

Also in Nanaimo tonight, the Superball champion Wellington Wildcats are both in action in their home gym. Welly’s senior AA girls host the ’49ers at 5 p.m. followed by a senior AA game between the ‘Cats and the Spartans at 7 p.m.

The Dover Bay Dolphins senior AAA teams are both on the road to play a doubleheader in Courtenay against G.P. Vanier.
