Royal Bay athletes in action in provincial, regional championships

West Shore runner contests XC provincials

Matthew Thomson of Royal Bay secondary finished 11th at the B.C. High School Cross Country Championships recently in Kelowna.

He finished the 6.7-kilometre course in 25 minutes, 51 seconds, about a minute and a half behind race winner Tyler Dozzi of Oak Bay High (24:23).

Thomson had finished fourth at the Island championship race around Beaver Lake last month.

Soccer Ravens shut out at Island tournament

Royal Bay’s senior boys soccer team went into last week’s Island AA championship in Campbell River with promise, having done well in city league play.

The Ravens had a tough time against the up-Island competition, however, failing to win a match. The Ravens lost two pool games by a goal, 1-0 to Mill Bay’s Frances Kelsey and 2-1 to Mark Isfeld of Courtenay, and lost 3-0 to eventual champ Carihi, leaving Royal Bay tied for seventh overall.
