Huge medal haul for Langley athletes

Mustangs find podium at Canadian Youth Legion track and field championships

It was a huge medal haul for several local athletes.

Members of the Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club were competing at the Canadian Youth Legion track and field championships at the University of PEI in Charlottetown, PEI from Aug. 17 to Aug. 19.

Five Mustangs were representing Team BC while two others were competing as independents.

Leading the way was Georgia Ellenwood in the youth (under 18 category).

Ellenwood brought home four medals with a gold in the long jump (5.78m), silver in the 200m (25.00) and bronze in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

Max Hanna captured gold in the javelin, throwing a personal best of 58.36m.

In the midget (under 16) category, Brittni Wolczyk dominated the throws with a gold in the discus (35.92m) and javelin (44.97m). Both throws were personal bests.

Teagan Rasche won gold in the 1500m race walk and a silver in the hammer throw (48.20m).

Distance runner Nickolas Colyn won a gold in the 2000m, with a time of 5:53, and a silver in the 1500m steeplechase, completing the race in 4:22.

Jordan Ellingson won gold in the javelin with a throw of 49.65m.

And Robyn Buckingham won the silver in the heptathlon with a score of 3,090 points.

Both the 2013 and 2014 youth and midget Canadian championships will be held at McLeod Park.
