Alex Turner forced overtime with 13 seconds to play and Athan Iannucci scored the only two goals in the 10-minute extra period as the Langley Thunder defeated the Nanaimo Timbermen 13-11.
The Timbermen had taken the lead with 31 seconds to play before the Thunder struck with their late heroics in senior A Western Lacrosse Association action at the Langley Events Centre last week (July 8).
Langley had lost 12-9 the night before against Maple Ridge and their record sits at 7-7. Kyle Belton had three goals in the loss.
Against Nanaimo, Iannucci led the offence with three goals and five points while Lewis Ratcliff had a pair of goals and four helpers. Patrick Saunders (two goals, three assists) and Anthony Malcom (two goals, one assist) also had multi-goal games.
Rocky Bowman made 19 saves on 23 shots, splitting time in goal with Brodie MacDonald. MacDonald stopped 16 of the 23 shots he faced.
The Thunder host New Westminster on July 15 at the LEC.
