New route for Cowichan Challenge Triathlon
The bridge is out but the race is on.
The Chemainus River Bridge is being replaced, forcing the Cowichan Challenge Triathlon to utilize a different bike route this year. The new route will be through Chemainus and Saltair.
The event takes place Sunday, July 14 at Fuller Lake Park.
The swim in Fuller Lake is followed by the cycle route and a run through the woods.
The entry cost from July 2 to 13 is $65. A $15 insurance fee is tacked on for non-TriBC members.

Chemainus wins Midget finals
Jared Roberts took one for the team.
Roberts was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases loaded that brought in the winning run for the Chemainus team in the final game of the Midget Division baseball playoffs.
Chemainus was down by six runs at one time to Ladysmith when Taylor McCormick got things going in the fourth to make it 6-5. Mason LaFrance came in to tie it in the seventh, setting the table for Roberts’ decisive at-bat.
Port Alberni mercied Oceanside No. 2 for third place in the eight-team event.
Chemainus overcame some adversity after losing its catcher Keith Fukakusa to injury.
MVPs for Chemainus in the tournament included Liam Hutchinson, Fukakusa and McCormick.
