Jr. Blaze remain red hot

U16 Langley baseball team off to 14-0 start to the season

The Langley Jr. Blaze continued their red-hot start to the season, grounding the Victoria Jr. Eagles and silencing the Vancouver Jr. Cannons to sweep a pair of weekend doubleheaders.

The Blaze remained perfect on the season, with a sparkling 14-0 record in B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League play.

In the opener in Victoria on Saturday, Liam Stroud allowed just one hit over six innings, while Justin Lawrence and Cody Faulkner drove in a run apiece in a 3-1 victory.

The second half of the doubleheader was no contest, as the Blaze offence erupted for 23 runs and 20 hits in a crushing 23-1 win.

All 10 Blaze batters had at least one RBI, led by Tanner Shaer’s four.

Lawrence, Mike Billows and Tyler O’Neill had three apiece.

Ashton Mantle picked up the win.

And the offence continued its torrid pace on Sunday in Vancouver, posting 13-0 and 9-2 victories.

O’Neill finished Sunday with seven RBIs, while Matt Strother drove in four in the first game, and Mitchell Robinson had a pair of RBIs in the latter contest.

Mike Strother drove in four runs and O’Neill added three more in the first game.

Mitchell Kennedy and Michael Dagg both pitched complete games.

The team looks to continue its perfect run when they host the White Rock Jr. Tritons (5-5) on Wednesday (May 11) at McLeod Park.
