The Langley Junior Thunder used a six-goal third period to seal their first victory of the season.
The junior A lacrosse squad turned a close game into a five-goal advantage with three goals in the opening 5:25 of the third period against the visiting Port Coquitlam Saints in B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League action at the Langley Events Centre.
The Jr. Thunder won 11-4 to improve to 1-2 while the Saints — an honourable mention in the most recent national top 10 rankings — fell to 2-2.
The Saints opened the scoring before Langley took control in the first, scoring the game’s next five goals. Port Coquitlam scored late in the frame to make it 5-2 and then had the only goal of the second period to cut the deficit down to a pair of goals.
But the Jr. Thunder took full control in the final 20 minutes, scoring six times on 12 shots. They outshot the Saints 46-32 for the game.
Brett Dobray continued his strong start to the season with two goals and four assists and the local Langley product has seven goals and 13 points in three games.
Dylan Quinn had two goals and one assist and William Vanden Hooven had one goal and two assists.
Nick Stone scored twice, Jake Taylor had a goal and an assists and James Rahe and Nathan Henare each had a goal.
Brendan Mykle-Winkler chipped in with four helpers.
Goaltender Keenan Lambright finished with 28 saves, as well as two assists.
Langley faces New Westminster (2-1) on Tuesday (May 15) in a road game at Queen’s Park Arena and they host Coquitlam (3-0) at the LEC on May 17.
