Junior track athletes show development

The Nanaimo Track and Field Club had a contingent of youngsters in Kamloops last weekend for the B.C. Junior Development Championships, and the team garnered a lot of top-three finishes.

Nanaimo track and field athletes are excelling at the junior level, which bodes well for the future. The Nanaimo Track and Field Club had a contingent of youngsters in Kamloops last weekend for the B.C. Junior Development Championships, and the team garnered a lot of top-three finishes. Full results of relay races are not available, but individual results from the JD championships include:

Nine-year-old girls – Makayla Mitchell, first, shot put, first, 800-metre race walk.

Nine-year-old boys – Keaton Heisterman, first, 600m, first, 1,000m, first, high jump, second, long jump, first, shot put.

10-year-old girls – Kaitlyn Watson, third, long jump.

10-year-old boys – Nate Seaman, second, 600m, second, 1,000m, second, long jump.

11-year-old girls – Madison Heisterman, first, 600m, first, 1,000m.

12-year-old boys – Jack Schlitz, third, high jump, third, shot put, third, discus; Joshua Mitchell, first, hammer throw, second, javelin.

13-year-old girls – Rachel Jerome, third, 100m dash, first, 200m, first, long jump, first, triple jump; Alyssa Mousseau, first, 300m, first, 800m; Amy Morris, third, 800m, second, 1,200m, first, 2,000m.

13-year-old boys – Josh Bailey, first, 800m, second, 1,200m, second, 2,000m; Carter Higgins, third, 800m, third, 2,000m, second, 200m hurdles; Bryce Kosak, third, 80m hurdles, first, 200m hurdles, second, high jump, third, discus, second, hammer throw; Jason Clare, second, triple jump.
