The biggest win in club history for the Nanaimo Island Stone Supply Timbermen came last year against the Burnaby Lakers in the provincial final.
Now, fans in Nanaimo can see what happens when two of B.C.’s best junior women’s lacrosse teams collide.
The T-women and Lakers play Thursday (June 9) at 7 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The midweek tilt is a make-up from earlier this spring, when the Lakers didn’t show up for a scheduled game.
The teams did play each other this past Saturday on the mainland, where they battled to a 5-5 tie. Amrita Dhoot scored two goals for Nanaimo in that one while Amanda Kowatski, Toni Angell and Marissa Jordan were the other scorers.
The contest was part of a busy weekend for the Island Stone Timbermen, as they played four games over three days.
Nanaimo started the weekend with a 5-3 win over Port Coquitlam on Friday. Jordan led the offence with a hat trick in that one. In Sunday’s early game, Jordan scored two more in another 5-3 win, this time against Coquitlam. On Sunday the Island Stone ladies were hammered 8-2 by tough New Westminster. Angell and Kowatski scored. Madison Krassman and Sabrina Price shared goaltending duties on the weekend.
