KIJHL: Leafs and Border Bruins tie 5-5

The Nelson Leafs and Grand Forks Border Bruins split 10 goals during regulation but couldn’t find one more in overtime Sunday.

Nelson led 5-3 but had to settle for a 5-5 tie after Grand Forks scored two late power-play goals.

Aigne McGeady-Bruce had a three-point game with two goals and an assist for the Leafs (18-17-5), while Alex Meeker also scored twice. Zach Morey returned from injury to score, and Devin Allen made 18 saves through regulation and two overtime periods.

Trey Mason was on fire for Grand Forks (17-17-6) with three goals and two assists. Mitch Turko and Garret Brisebois also scored, and Anthony Galliart stopped 50 shots in net. Turko’s power-play goal with 52 seconds left sent the game to extra time.

The Border Bruins wreaked havoc on the man advantage with five goals on nine opportunities.

The extra point secured a playoff spot for both teams.
