Penticton’s KISU swim club is at Kelowna’s H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre this weekend for a long course invitational.
KISU coach Tina Hoeben said it’s their second long course (50 metre pool) meet of the season.
“We are excited to see where swimmers are for their long course times,” she said.
Swimmers are allowed to compete in three events per day and a max of eight during the two days.
That is one of three events the club is competing in. Next weekend the club has young swimmers heading to West Kelowna on May 17. The club is also traveling to Wenatchee with nearly 60 swimmers for the Apple Capital Meet at the end of May. Hoeben said it will be the highlight of the season. It is an international meet held in the Wenatchee City Pool, which has 10 lanes.
On April 25, the club hosted a jamboree with 95 swimmers from Kelowna, West Kelowna and Summerland. Swimmers competed for nearly four hours, some completing up to five swims.
“Swimmers have great fun and every time these young swimmers get a chance to race, they build so much confidence,” said KISU coach Theresa Zunich.
KISU swimmers earned several best times, including in the challenging 200 metro individual medley, in which they need to finish in under four minutes to step up to the next level. KISU swimmers Tyler Bates and Garrett Kennedy accomplished that. Bates’ time was three minutes, 55 and three tenths of a second. Kennedy swam a 3:57.78.
“This was a very impressive swim for Tyler, it was his first try at competing at a swim meet,” said Zunich.
