Kodiaks stretch streak to 10 games

Mark Meniccuci stops all 32 shots for second consecutive shutout; goaltender has allowed one goal in past three games

The Aldergrove Kodiaks have stretched their winning streak to double digits as they won their 10th consecutive game, a 2-0 shutout of the Grandview Steelers.

The two junior B rivals squared off Jan. 9 at Aldergrove Arena.

Mark Menicucci stopped all 32 shots for his second straight shutout. He has also allowed just one goal in the past three games, stopping 92 of the 93 shots he has faced in that span.

Menicucci’s .943 save percentage leads all goalies in the Pacific Junior Ice Hockey League. He also lowered his goals against to 1.99, which is second in the league.

The goals came from Stefan Gonzales, in the first period, and then Stephen Ryan in the third.

Despite the lengthy winning streak, which began back on Nov. 30, the Kodiaks still sit seven points back of the first place Abbotsford Pilots in the race for top spot in the Harold Brittain Conference. Aldergrove does hold one game in hand.

The Kodiaks will go for win number 11 on Jan. 12 when they visit the North Vancouver Wolf Pack.
