Kraakman birdies three to take round two

Chilliwack's Mitchell Thiessen finished seven strokes back of Deroche's Niko Kraakman at the Fred Wellsby Junior Divot Tour.

Deroche native Niko Kraakman fired an even-par 63 with three birdies to take top spot in the second round of the Optimist Fred Wellsby Junior Divot Tour.

Round two was played Wednesday at the Cultus Lake Golf Club.

Kraakman’s low-gross score in the 13-15 year old division was five strokes better than runner-up Lynden Knodel (Chilliwack), and six better than West Vancouver’s Andrew Wong.

Chilliwack’s Mitchell Thiessen, the first round winner, tied Aldergrove’s Jake Dewaal for fourth, both with 70s.

Chilliwack’s Kurtis Russell was sixth with a 71.

Mission’s Devin Cutforth and Chilliwack’s Josh Bamford carded 72s.

Abbotsford’s Sher Sidhu paced the 10-12 year old division, winning the Owen Lounsbury Memorial trophy with a 78.

Mission’s Brian Dale was second at 84. West Vancouver’s Laura Wong was third at 85.

For the second day in a row, Abbotsford’s Tyson Dyck annihilated the competition in the nine-and-under division.

Dyck’s 74 was 14 strokes better than Langley’s Caleb Davies (88). Chilliwack’s Adam Knodel was third at 102.
