Lake City Basketball U13 and U17 squads net wins in league and tournament play

Lake City Club basketball teams were in action earlier this month starting with the U13 girls.

The U13 squad faced the Gators in Kelowna Minor Basketball Association play, earning a narrow 36-33 win. A balanced attack, with eight of 12 players, hit the scoresheet for Lake City.

The top scorers were Alyssa Mullin with eight points, and Averi  Boerboom and Faith Henrichsen with six each.   Lake City improves to 3-1 in KBMA play.

U15 Girls

In Abbotsford for the 3D Tournament, their first of the year, the squad went winless in four games starting with a 37-20 loss to VSC U15 (Vancouver).

Game 2:  35-18 vs.  VSC Elite

Game 3:  66-12 vs.  VK Basketball (Surrey)

Game 4:  32-29 vs.  VSC Elite (same team as Game 2)

The tournament featured three divisions and Lake City chose to compete in the top one.

“The focus of the weekend was exposing the girls, who all had a lot of success with their school teams this year, to the next level of basketball,” said coach Chris Terris. “We wanted them to play the best the Coast had to offer regardless of wins and losses.”

U17 Girls

Going 4-0 helped the U17 squad win the 3D Tournament in Langley.

Game 1: Lake City 53 vs Lynn Valley 19.  Madison Terbasket had 17 points and Mattie Philips had 11 (including two 3s)

Game 2: Lake City 56 vs. Chilliwack 30.  Emma Schneider had 14 points, Terbasket, 12 and Hannah Clarke and Shaloa Street with eight each.

Game 3:  Lake City 49 to Athlete U16 18. Terbasket led with 16 points, Clarke had 11 and Jill Henrichson had eight.

Game 4:  Lake City 34 vs Vancouver 3D 33. Terbasket had 18 points, Henrichson had eight.

“Our fast break and transition offence was great.  Most teams could not keep up with our pace of play,” said coach Dustin Hyde. “There were several occasions where we managed to transition the ball up the floor for a layup without a single dribble.”

“Defensively we were also very tough.  We ran some simple full court, man to man pressure with our athletic and quick guards that caused a bit of havoc for most teams leading to layups and foul calls in our favor. Overall, great start to our club season.”
