Lakers cruise past Bears in girls basketball

The Pen High Lakers senior girls team netted a 68-37 win against the Mt. Boucherie Bears

The Pen High Lakers senior girls basketball team opened 2014 with a 68-37 against the Mt. Boucherie Bears at home.

The two teams clashed on Wednesday night and Lakers coach Lesley Lacroix said her group was able to build on their lead, which was at 15 points for most of the evening.

Grade 11 guard Carleigh Dean had a break-out performance shooting 38 per cent from the three-point range to lead all scorers with 15 points.

“Another great surprise was the return of Grade 12 veteran Hayden Craig, who hasn’t played for almost a year due to injury and illness,” said Lacroix. “Strong in the key, Hayden contributed 11 points and six boards.”

Also contributing to the Lakers offense was Emily Clarke with 11 points, while Natasha Reimer and Annie Plant chipped in eight each.

The win improves the Lakers to 4-1 and are in Kelowna this weekend for an Immaculata tournament.
