Langley Blaze trio in camp with Canada

Three former members of the Langley Blaze are hoping to help Canada at the World Baseball Classic

Team Canada will be well represented by B.C. — and Langley — at the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Three former members of the Langley Blaze and 10 alumni altogether, of the B.C. Premier Baseball League, are on the roster for Canada for Major League Baseball’s World Baseball Classic.

The players report to the Canadian training camp on March 2 for exhibition games with the WBC set to kick off March 8.

Former Blaze players Brett Lawrie, Tyson Gillies and Scott Mathieson are all scheduled to be at the camp.

Lawrie plays third base for the Toronto Blue Jays, while Gillies is an outfielder in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Mathieson pitched last season for the Yomiuri Giants, helping the team win the 2012 Japan Series title.

Other former PBL players include Justin Morneau and Jimmy Van Ostrand (North Delta Blue Jays); Rene Tosoni (Coquitlam Reds); Mike Saunders (Victoria Mariners); and Adam Loewen (Whalley Chiefs).
