It was a good start to the new year for the Langley atom A2 Eagles hockey team.
The Eagles were crowned champions at the Hollyburn New Year’s Atom hockey tournament, which wrapped up on Jan. 4 in West Vancouver.
Langley avenged their lone loss of the tournament, defeating the Kamloops Nailers 5-4 in the championship final.
Kamloops had defeated the Eagles 3-2 during pool play. In Langley’s other games, they beat the Seafair A2 Islanders 6-4, and the Powell River A1 Kings 4-0 to finish second in their pool.
And in the semifinals, Langley needed some late-game heroics against the Hollyburn A1 Huskies.
The Eagles trailed 3-1 after two periods, but stormed back to score three times — including the winner with less than two minutes to play — in a 4-3 victory.
The team is made up of Nolan Bowsher, Adam Cooper, Myka Davis, Jackson Euverman, Hiroki Gojsic, Nolan Gola, Riley Joslin, Danner Kierstead, Ryan Michael, Ryan Nightingale, Linden Perry, Joel Plante, Nathan Rosner, Lynden Savard, Jacob Thompson, Logan Wormald and Jordan Yuan.
Gary Bowsher is the head coach and Yan Savard and Dave Toms are the assistant coaches.
