Former Walnut Grove, Brookswood standouts transferring to new basketball programs

A pair of former Langley high school basketball stars are on the move.

Jadon Cohee is transferring from Seattle University to Southern Utah while Tayla Jackson is going from the University of California Irvine to Simon Fraser University.

Cohee attended Walnut Grove Secondary, helping the Gators win the 2013 B.C. 4A senior boys provincial title, earning most valuable player honours.

The six-foot-four guard spent two seasons in Seattle with the Redhawks but now will sit out one season as a transfer before playing his final two seasons with the Thunderbirds.

“Jadon is an excellent player that brings a wealth of experience from both the Canadian U19 national team and the Division 1 level,” said Southern Utah coach Todd Simon.

“His work ethic, character, and commitment to winning will be an asset to the team.  Jadon is a big, aggressive, lead guard that can make shots and make plays in our up-tempo system.”

Last season he averaged 7.8 points per game, scoring double figures in 12 games.

Jackson played for the Brookswood Bobcats, helping the ’Cats win the B.C. 3A senior girls title in both 2014 and 2015. She was a first team all-star both times.

Jackson, a six-foot-three post player, appeared in 31 games her freshman year, averaging four points and 3.6 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.

“Tayla will bring a fiery, competitive presence and will be a great addition to our team,” said Langford. “She will provide toughness, rebounding and more of a physical presence inside. She’s also athletic and runs the floor well so she will help us push the ball more next season.”

“I am hoping to come in and compliment the current players, get to know everyone, figure out where I fit and what I need to do to help us win,” said Jackson. “Whatever I need to do to help us win I will do.”

“I have a competitive edge and a bit of a firecracker in me so I will push and lift my teammates to be better,” she added.
