Langley Junior Blaze keep on winning

U16 baseball team returns to action, stretches win streak to nine games

Three weeks between league games did not cool off the Langley Junior Blaze.

A doubleheader sweep over the Victoria Junior Eagles (5-19) stretched Langley’s winning streak to nine games in the B.C. Junior U16 Premier Baseball League.

The Blaze lead the league with a 22-5 record.

Hosting the Eagles on Sunday at McLeod Park, Langley won 8-3 and 12-0.

In the opener, Grahame Bailey allowed just two hits over six and a third innings.

The offence was fueled by Justin Lawrence and Andre Pelletier who both drove in a pair of runs.

Colin McMaster, Liam Goodfrey and Shayne Clark had one RBI apiece.

The teams were tied at two after one inning, but Langley took the lead for good in the fourth with a single run. They sealed the game with a five-run fifth inning.

The second game was another two hitter as this time Kyle Ross was masterful on the mound.

The Blaze scored 12 runs — six of them unearned — with six players driving in one run apiece.

McMaster, Clarke, Pelletier, Eric Broatch, Steven Young and Matthew Whieldon all drove in a run.

Langley also scored runs in four of the five innings, including eight runs in the fifth inning.

Next up for the Blaze is the Abbotsford Junior Cardinals (15-9) on June 26 at McLeod Park.
