Langley Olympians qualify two more for AAA swim championships

Bailey Herbert and Brandon Miller will swim in Victoria after achieving the necessary qualifying time

Add two more to the list of Langley Olympian Swim Club members who will be competing in Victoria at the end of the month in the B.C. AAA championships.

Bailey Herbert, 10, and Brandon Miller, 15, both qualified for the upcoming meet thanks to their performances at the Swim BC short course (25m pool) AA championships, which were hosted by the Surrey Knights Swim Club Feb. 8 to 10.

The Olympians now have a team of seven heading to Victoria on Feb. 28.

Herbert won a pair of gold medals (200 IM and 400 IM) and made the necessary qualifying times for the AAA championships in both events, as well as the 200 breast. She also placed sixth in the 200 breast and seventh in the 100 breast.

Miller finished fourth in the 200 back event, but he did meet the qualifying standard. Miller also won gold in the 100 back to go along with a fourth (1500 free) and fifth (400 free) in two other events.

Some other strong results from the meet include 12-year-old Jenessa Hillman who finished first in the 400 free and second in the 800 free.

Hugh McNeill, 9, was seventh in the 200 back and eighth in the 50 free.

And Sierra Cook, 11, was fourth in the 100 free.

“The swimmers have been training hard for this meet and it showed in their performance in the water,” said Linda Metcalfe, the assistant head coach of the Olympians.
