Prior to jetting off to South Korea to compete at the world junior championships, a local rink with some Langley connections will be gunning for gold at the 2017 BC men’s curling championship.
The team of skip Tyler Tardi, third Sterling Middleton, second Jordan Tardi and lead Nicholas Meister — fresh off their victory last week in Victoria at the 2017 Canadian junior curling championships — are in the field for next week’s provincial championships in Abbotsford.
They are among the field of a dozen teams competing at the Abbotsford Curling Club from Feb. 8 to 12. The winner will represent B.C. at the 2017 Tim Hortons Brier.
“This tournament brings together B.C.’s best men’s curling teams and will provide some of the most exciting curling this province has seen this year,” Curl BC CEO Scott Braley said.
“Curl BC is confident Abbotsford will put on a top-notch tournament for curling fans from across the province.”
Meister is from Langley while the Tardi brothers are from Cloverdale and Middleton is originally from Fort St. John, but now in Burnaby.
The rink curls out of the Langley Curling Club and the Royal City Curling Club.
They qualified for senior men’s provincials as the Lower Mainland A event winners.
And they will be joined in Abbotsford by another rink with a Langley connection as Team Bilesky (Royal City Curling Club) qualified for provincials as the Lower Mainland B event winners.
That squad features Langley’s Cameron Watt, who is the rink’s third.
