First place is on the line tonight as the Langley Senior Blaze battle the Coquitlam Angels.
The Blaze defeated the Burnaby Bulldogs 5-2 on July 24, pushing Langley into a first-place tie with Coquitlam as both baseball squads finished the Pacific Metro Baseball League regular season with 9-3 records.
As a result, the two teams will play a one-game tiebreaker at a neutral field, which will be at Robert Burnaby Park. The victor wins the league championship and receives a bye into the provincial championships, which run Aug. 3 to 6 in Prince George.
Against Burnaby on July 24, at Robert Burnaby Park, the Blaze struck for three runs in the top of the first inning, with Brad Ferraro, Ricky Alvernaz and Bob Foerster all crossing home plate.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the bottom of the third but Langley put the game out of reach with another two runs in the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Clayton Howell and then an RBI single from Alvernaz.
Alvernaz finished 3-for-4 with one run scored and two more driven in.
Jesse Peters picked up the win, scattering seven hits over seven innings with five strikeouts. Neither run was earned.
